Yesterday was mainly filled with the drive from Yala to somewhere I can't pronounce!but it was a nice drive except for the drivers constant drivel. We took it in turns to catch up on some sleep. As we climed the mountains the scenery changed and the tempeture dropped. This came as a bit of a shock, we both wore jackets and long trousers out in the evening. When we got back the "house boy" had brought us a heater and some extra blankets. Funny little place, overlooking a lake. Our house boy is a nice young lad who can not do enough for us. He's brought us tea three time without us asking. (I expect we will still get charged!!) but he really is a hard worker, and there are not many that will do something without hanging around expecting a tip. we have already agreed that he should have a good one!!!! Today was a bit out of the ordinary. We woke at 4.30 to go to a "view" in the national park that is best seen as the sun rises, however before we left Bev made us tea, after as he got out of bed he slipped on the carpet on the tiled floor, if it hadn't been a concern it would have been so funny, flat on his back with legs and arms up in the air, still holing the cups up, but the remainder of the tea all over him!!!! It became a concern when he realised that he doesn't have the fat that he use to have and his back felt quite bruised. Any way not letting that spoil our plans, off we went with a flask of tea and cheese and egg sandwiches for breakfast, complements of "the house boy" We had an hour drive up mountains and through remote villages. The views were wonderful but supposedly nothing in comparison to "worlds end" so called because you can go no further except down, a 1500 mt drop with no protective fencing! (what health and safety asked the Aussie who fell to his death last month, taking a photo! Back a bit and a bit more!!!!) Anyway we arrived at the gates where a nice chap asked for 6000 rupee entry, I dug deep into Bev wallet to find that we only had 4500 between us!! So yes the view was supposed to be out of this world! But we will never see it! We turned around and headed down again taking in a few sites, water falls tea plantations and a cow farm, who the guide is very proud of and wanted us to see. I didnt like to affend buy informing him that we have 1000ss of cows at home. The afternoon we rested then Cedrik decided that the best thing for Bevs back was a massage, so he drove us to someone he knew!! Very strange, very shabby, in the front of some woman's house!!! Well in for a penny in for a pound. We both lead On the beds next to each other, without a stitch of clothing on, except for a very small thin sheet!! In came two girls, Bev got the little dainty looking one and I got the one with the muscles!! Oh my god they started at the toes and worked up, 1,1/2 hours later I felt that I had been in a scrum with a rugby team(or was that what I was dreaming off!) we finished off with a steam bath or at least I did, Bev refused as it looked like a coffin with your head hanging out or even the French guillotine!!! Anyway I tried it, as you lay (naked) On the wooden bench type bed the steam got hotter and hotter!! The bed was covered in dried leaves of some sort which kept sticking to your bum so it was best not to wriggle!!!! Finally £20.00 each and 1.1/2 hours later we both felt very relaxed, so much so that Bev fell asleep at the dinner table! ( or is he board with me already, you will have to keep reading to find out). Good night campers!

Quiet day yesterday,(rear event since our driver wants to cram in as much as he can). We are having a bit of trouble with this driver, not sure but I think he likes a drink at night, anyway he's another blog altogether!!! We saw the stick fishermen but of course these days the just do it for the tourists!! We also when on a river safari which turned out quite different than we expected. Not many birds but we did see a couple of eagles. But my highlight was the vampire bats, it is a site I will never forget. 100s hanging from the trees, and I do mean 100s. The noise of the boat and the drivers whistle disturbed a few of them so they started to fly about, wing span about 3 feet. The we're awesome, I could have sat and watched them for hours. Forget what day it is today but it has been very long!!!! Whale watching from 6.30 to 9.30 then of to the dry plains for an after noons Safari. Saw two blueback whales but no tale in the air! The safari was ok, saw elephants ,crocs deer, jeckles and birds, sorry to say we have been spoiled by the safaris in Kenya. Nice hotel tonight. Going to clime into bed now befor I fall a sleep writing!! Good night!

PS. Will someone leave a comment or is my blog boring?
Today is Bevs birthday so we had a nice meal out. I keep telling him that we can't keep paying £25.00 for lobster!!!! Food is cheap here. There arnt many tourist so two nights running we were the only guests in the restaurants. We are making our way south with a car and driver. They are all mad drivers here but he is very careful and we feel very safe with him. Only trouble is that he does not stop talking!! No really he is worse than me. We visited a blue moon stone mine yesterday, the guys look like they are in a concentration camp, such bad conditions, we also saw battik, wood carving and the highlight of my day, a visit to a turtle rescue farm, the babys are so cute!! The people obviously love what they do as they keep any injured turtles and they have the only albino turtle in captivity, if they let it go it will be lucky to live a week whereas they will keep it till it dies naturally 5-6 years. We found a hotel on our way down that only cost £35.00BB, untill today I Would have said "you only get what you pay for" but today we have found a lovely little guest house, only £25.00 BB! The room is cleaner and looks out onto the sea. We think we will stay two nights. Today we went to Galle, quit interesting! Bev enjoyed seeing where England thrashed the Sri lankans at cricket!!! Got a bit sunburnt tho. And had a paddy when some Burk pulled a cobra out of a basket without any warning. Tomorrow I think we are looking at whale watching but the sea has been a bit rough and bev is not happy!!! We will see!

Please don't ask me what time of day it is as I don't have a clue!! We are still working on British time for Bevs pills but local time for flights! We are so glad to be sat in this grotty little airport in Channi, India. Not many seats only one sweet shop and no duty free!!!! But as I said we are glade to be here! We arrived at Delhi airport after a rough and sleepless night. Two weeks ago the tour operator changed the flight, not London to delhi then on to Sri Lanka, no they changed it to include another stop in "lovely channi". 3flights in 26 hours (did not draw to much attention of this to bev, he was on a need to know basis.!) When we arrived in Delhi we were told that the flight to Channi was internal so we would have to go through customes, collect our bags then go to internal terminal to get the connecting flight. Easy you may think with 4 hours stop over! Oh no we could not go through customs because we did not have a blasted visa to cross the line to go from one terminal to another!! Have you ever watch the airport program's on tv? That was us!! We were give the choice, back to London or buy another ticket to sri Lanka??? 4 hours later and only moving from one lounge to another. At least 30"officials" standing around trying to decide what to do wil this shaky man in a wheel chair and an irate woman who said London is not an option. The cost off a flight was £1000.00!!! But there wasn't anY seats available anyway!!.Finally 2 hour later an only one helpfully woman from BA (with a BA to start with, until I told her not to talk down to me) she worked wonders and talked the airport manager into issuing us with a 3 day visa, this also took 2 hours so they held the plane up for us, (30 mins)arrived in Sri Lanka safe and sound but no car to pick us up!! Next stop to bollok the tour company.

Wednesday 23 May 2012

Well Wednesday is here, I dont think either of us actually thought this day would come! There has been a few times when we thought to cancel. With Bevs Parkinson's this is a very daunting adventure, however here we are all packed and ready to go. Saying good bye was tough, but we must remember that this is just an adventure not for life. However I wish the family was coming with us, not just because we love them and want to share every thing with them, but also this is the first time I HAVE BEEN IN CHARGE! In the past Bev has always taken care of every thing, this time I am and that also meets the CASH as well!! (Wayhay I will have a great time!)
